Household chores

Every Saturday morning, Mia and her younger brother Ben help their parents with household chores. During the week, everyone is busy with school and work, so Saturday is the best day to clean the house together.

Mia usually starts in the kitchen. She puts the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, cleans the table, and takes out the rubbish. She does not really enjoy these jobs, but she likes seeing the kitchen clean when she finishes. Ben is only eight years old, so his jobs are a little easier. He puts his toys away and helps tidy the living room. He also waters the plants. Sometimes he forgets to water them, and his mother has to remind him.

After breakfast, the children help their father with the laundry. Mia puts the clean clothes on the chairs, and Ben helps match the socks. He thinks matching socks is a funny job because there are always some socks without a pair.

Last Saturday, their parents gave them a new job. They asked the children to clean their bedrooms. Mia cleaned her desk and put her books on the shelf. Ben found some old toys under his bed and decided to give them to a local charity.

When all the chores were finished, the family had lunch together. Their mother thanked Mia and Ben for their help. She said that doing chores was important because everyone in the family should help take care of the home. Mia agreed. She still did not love cleaning, but she liked being part of the team. Ben had a different idea. He said, "I like chores when they are finished!". Everyone laughed.
